Charity Concert Supports Families of Children With Disabilities
Dream Serenade was established in 2014 by Toronto musician Hayden Desser and his wife, Christie Greyerbiehl.
The couple initially organized the benefit to recognize caregivers and raise money for a new playground at Beverley School, which their daughter attended.
What began as a school-focused fundraising initiative has since developed into an annual charitable event supporting families throughout the GTA.
The organization provides financial assistance to families caring for children with developmental or physical disabilities, helping address costs associated with recreational activities, summer programs and caregiving.
Summer Bursary Program Reaches Record 300 Families
One of Dream Serenade’s principal initiatives is its Summer Bursary program, which provides funding to improve access to summer experiences for children requiring additional support.
In 2026, the program distributed a record 300 bursaries to families connected with 95 Toronto District School Board (TDSB) schools.
The funding helps families access summer camps, recreational activities, caregiving assistance and other opportunities that may otherwise be financially difficult to obtain.
The bursary program has expanded alongside the annual concert, reflecting continued community participation and donor support.
Organizers have not disclosed the total dollar value of the 2026 bursaries or a fundraising target for this year’s concert.
Dream Serenade Receives National Recognition for Community Impact
The event’s charitable work has received recognition from Canadian cultural and philanthropic organizations.
In 2025, Dream Serenade’s contributions were recognized with a Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada.
The organization was also nominated for the Canadian Live Music Association’s 2026 Philanthropic Live Event of the Year award.
These distinctions highlight the event’s combination of live entertainment, community fundraising and support for families navigating disability-related expenses.
Massey Hall Concert Continues Longstanding Fundraising Tradition
Massey Hall has become an established venue for Dream Serenade, providing a prominent Toronto stage for musicians supporting the initiative.
The annual gathering brings together performers, families, donors and community members while generating financial support for the organization’s year-round programs.
The concert’s format also provides opportunities for collaboration among participating artists, with additional guest appearances expected during the October 24 performance.
