Prime Video showcased its upcoming Original series Carrie at the Toronto International Film Festival, giving audiences an early look at showrunner Mike Flanagan’s television adaptation of Stephen King’s landmark debut novel ahead of its global streaming release in October.
The world premiere was held at Toronto’s historic Royal Alexandra Theatre on Friday, September 18, where the first two episodes were screened before a packed audience. The event closed TIFF’s Primetime programme and marked Flanagan’s return to the festival following his 2024 People’s Choice Award win.
All eight episodes of Carrie are scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video on October 7.

Flanagan attended the Toronto premiere alongside several members of the series cast. He serves as showrunner, writer, executive producer and director on the project.
Stars appearing at the red carpet event and post-screening question-and-answer session included Summer H. Howell, Samantha Sloyan, Alison Thornton, Kate Siegel and Matthew Lillard.
The TIFF appearance gives Prime Video a high-profile international platform to introduce the series ahead of its streaming debut. The Toronto festival has increasingly provided a showcase for television productions through its Primetime programme alongside its established film lineup.
Mike Flanagan Reimagines Stephen King’s Debut Novel
The eight-episode series represents the first television adaptation of King’s Carrie, approaching the familiar story through an expanded episodic format.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, a high-school student who has spent much of her life isolated at home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret, played by Samantha Sloyan.
Following the sudden death of her father, Carrie enters public high school and finds herself navigating an unfamiliar and often hostile social environment. The new adaptation incorporates contemporary pressures, including social media and a viral bullying scandal affecting Carrie and the wider community.
At the same time, Carrie begins discovering mysterious telekinetic abilities that intensify alongside the challenges of adolescence.
The series uses its eight episodes to expand the characters and conflicts associated with King’s story, exploring the accumulation of everyday decisions and acts of cruelty that ultimately lead toward a devastating confrontation.
Prime Video Builds Ensemble Cast for Eight-Episode Series
Howell and Sloyan lead an ensemble of series regulars that also includes Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard.
The production also features a group of recurring guest performers, including Heather Graham, Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Rowan Danielle, Rahul Kohli and Tim Bagley.
Flanagan and King are credited as executive producers.
Toronto Premiere Leads Into October 7 Global Release
The project continues Flanagan’s work in horror and literary adaptation while bringing one of King’s best-known stories to an episodic format. The longer structure provides additional space to examine Carrie’s relationships, her community and the social pressures surrounding the central story.
For Prime Video, the series adds another internationally distributed Original to a catalogue that includes movies, television programming and live sports. In Canada, the service also carries sports programming including NHL, NBA, WNBA and PWHL content alongside entertainment titles.
The Toronto premiere serves as the final major festival showcase before Carrie reaches streaming audiences worldwide.
With its TIFF debut complete, Prime Video is positioning the eight-part series as a major October release, combining the recognition of King’s original novel with Flanagan’s approach to serialized horror. All eight episodes will become available exclusively on Prime Video on October 7.
