Prime Video has unveiled its 2026-27 NHL on Prime Wednesday Night Hockey schedule, outlining 27 nationally televised regular-season games and an expanded postseason offering as the streaming platform begins a new long-term Canadian rights agreement.
The schedule opens September 30 at 7 p.m. ET, when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New York Islanders. Regular-season broadcasts will be available in both English and French exclusively on Prime Video in Canada at no additional cost to Canadian Prime members.
The upcoming season marks an expansion of Prime Video’s position in Canada’s sports streaming market, with the platform becoming the exclusive long-term home of regular-season Wednesday Night Hockey through the 2037-38 NHL season.
Toronto Maple Leafs Lead Opening Night of Wednesday Night Hockey
The Toronto Maple Leafs will appear six times during the season, beginning with the September 30 matchup against the Islanders.
Another notable Toronto game comes on March 17, when the Maple Leafs hold their annual St. Pats game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Montréal Canadiens will have an even larger presence, appearing in seven regular-season games. Their first scheduled Prime Video matchup comes October 14, when Montréal visits Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
Canadiens and Bruins Rivalry Featured Twice
Two games between Montréal and the Boston Bruins are also included, giving the schedule a pair of matchups involving one of the NHL’s longest-running rivalries. The Canadiens and Bruins are scheduled to meet on January 6 and again on March 10.
Other Canadian teams will have multiple opportunities for national exposure. The Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators are each scheduled to make four appearances.
Among the early-season games is an October 21 matchup between the Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators, featuring Brady Tkachuk’s return to Ottawa.
One week later, the Edmonton Oilers host the Calgary Flames on October 28 in the latest edition of the Battle of Alberta.
Canadian NHL Clubs Receive National Streaming Exposure
The Vancouver Canucks will also be featured during the campaign, facing the Detroit Red Wings on November 25 before meeting the Anaheim Ducks on December 16.
Overall, the Wednesday Night Hockey schedule includes five all-Canadian matchups, providing Prime Video with several games built around established regional and national NHL rivalries.
For Prime Video, the schedule represents a significant component of its expanding sports business in Canada. The streaming service already carries a range of sports properties across different international markets, while its Canadian offering includes NHL and PWHL coverage.
Prime Video Adds Stanley Cup Playoff Series
The 2026-27 season will also extend Prime Video’s NHL coverage into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For the first time, the platform will exclusively carry select playoff series in Canada. Its postseason package will include two First Round series and one Second Round series each year.
The addition gives Prime Video a larger role during the NHL’s most commercially significant portion of the season and extends its hockey programming beyond the regular Wednesday night schedule.
Prime Video said additional information about its broadcast talent and production plans will be announced later.
Long-Term NHL Rights Deal Extends Through 2037-38
The launch of the new schedule comes as streaming services continue to become more prominent in the distribution of professional sports. Prime Video’s agreement gives the platform a regular national NHL window in Canada for more than a decade.
The NHL currently consists of 32 clubs and has players representing more than 20 countries. In Canada, its national media distribution now includes Prime Video alongside established broadcast and streaming partners.
Prime Video’s broader sports portfolio varies by market and includes properties such as the NBA, WNBA, NFL’s Thursday Night Football, NASCAR and international football competitions.
For Canadian hockey audiences, however, the immediate focus will be September 30, when the Maple Leafs and Islanders officially open the new Wednesday Night Hockey season.
With 27 regular-season games, five all-Canadian matchups and select Stanley Cup Playoff series included in its coverage, Prime Video is positioning NHL programming as an increasingly important part of its Canadian live-sports strategy through the 2037-38 season.
