Oklahoma alternative metal trio Nova Riot has released a new music video for “Like I Meant It,” the latest single from the band’s debut full-length album, Blood, Lies & Lullabies. The seven-track record arrived Aug. 21, 2026, through Eclipse Records and showcases the group’s self-described “bubblegum alternative metal” sound.
Nova Riot Takes ‘Like I Meant It’ Into Horror Territory
The Durant, Oklahoma-based trio filmed the “Like I Meant It” video inside a decaying cabin set at an award-winning haunted attraction. Directed by the band’s bassist, Orion, the video features vocalist Nova Ray alongside Orion in a deliberately limited cast designed to create a more concentrated visual atmosphere.
According to Nova Ray, the song explores the internal conflict involved in making difficult life decisions. Its central theme focuses on the consequences of walking away and how those experiences can leave lasting impressions while ultimately helping someone seek balance and peace.
“Like I Meant It” is the third music video connected to Blood, Lies & Lullabies.
Classic Horror Influences Shape the Music Video
The visual concept draws from horror films and folklore, with Orion citing the original Evil Dead movies and the story of Hansel and Gretel among the primary inspirations.
The production combines witchcraft-inspired imagery, traditional horror elements and Nova Riot’s clowncore aesthetic. Orion also introduced a new toxic green and purple mask specifically for the video.
Keeping the on-screen cast to Nova Ray and Orion allowed the production to place greater emphasis on camera movement, editing and the cabin setting. The approach complements the track’s combination of heavy instrumentation and melodic hooks while expanding the visual world surrounding the album.
‘Blood, Lies & Lullabies’ Introduces Nova Riot’s Bubblegum Metal Sound
Formed in 2024, Nova Riot consists of Nova Ray on vocals, Orion on bass guitar and Ares on lead guitar. The group describes its musical philosophy as “Music with No Apologies,” combining alternative metal with brighter pop influences.
The band’s approach draws comparisons to the heavier sounds associated with Spiritbox, Bad Omens and The Pretty Reckless while incorporating pop-oriented elements reminiscent of artists such as Poppy and Violent Vira.
