$24.4-Million Infrastructure Project to Support Hospital Expansion and Advanced Medical Services
Design and pre-construction work is underway for a new $24.4-million energy centre at Delta Hospital, a major infrastructure project expected to strengthen the hospital’s electrical capacity and support future health-care expansion in the growing community.
The new facility will provide critical power infrastructure needed to support upcoming projects, including the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre and the installation of an MRI at the hospital site. The investment comes as Delta prepares for significant population growth, with the community expected to add approximately 31,000 residents over the next two decades.
The energy centre will help ensure Delta Hospital can accommodate additional services, modern medical technology and future expansion plans while maintaining reliable operations.
“Our government continues to invest in Delta to support modernized health care to serve a growing and aging population,” said Ravi Kahlon, MLA for Delta North. “This important project will play a key role in delivering the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre project as well as the hospital’s MRI and other significant future projects.”

Energy centres are essential components of hospital infrastructure, housing equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgears and other electrical systems. These facilities help hospitals remain operational during emergencies, including power outages, floods and earthquakes.
For Delta Hospital, the new energy centre is expected to provide the dependable infrastructure required to support future health-care services while improving the site’s ability to respond during emergency situations.

The project builds on a series of recent investments aimed at expanding health-care access in Delta. These include the opening of the South Delta After-Hours Urgent and Primary Care Centre, the hiring of emergency physicians and nurses to support Delta Hospital’s Emergency Department, and ongoing work to install an MRI and create a purpose-built space for the hospital’s endoscopy program.
Both the MRI installation and endoscopy expansion projects are fully funded by the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

Foundation Investment Supports Long-Term Hospital Growth
The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation has played a key role in supporting major improvements at the hospital campus, including investments in the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre, expanded endoscopy services and the upcoming MRI unit.

Construction of the new energy centre is scheduled to begin in summer 2027, with completion expected in spring 2028. Design and pre-construction activities are currently progressing ahead of the construction phase.
