Second full-length release showcases a sharper sound, renewed lineup, and themes of instability, resilience, and growth
Ontario punk trio Among Legends is set to release its sophomore full-length album, Lose My Grip, on July 10, 2026, marking a significant step forward for a band that has spent the better part of a decade building its reputation through relentless touring, independent releases, and a commitment to the Canadian punk scene.
Produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Matt Gauthier at ARC Recording Studio and This Place Needs A Name, the 12-track record delivers a faster, heavier, and more refined sound than the band’s previous work while maintaining the melodic foundation that has become a defining characteristic of Among Legends’ music.
Drawing inspiration from established punk acts such as Bad Religion, The Flatliners, and Alkaline Trio, Lose My Grip blends aggressive instrumentation with memorable hooks and introspective songwriting. The result is an album that reflects both the band’s musical evolution and the personal and social uncertainties that shaped its creation.
A More Focused and Confident Sound
The album arrives following the release of several key singles that offered listeners an early glimpse into the band’s new direction.
“H/A/C/K” introduced a harder-edged approach, combining driving guitar work and punchy rhythms with an undercurrent of frustration and urgency. Meanwhile, “Floating Here For Years” showcased a more reflective side of the group, balancing momentum with introspection.
Together, the songs signaled a record that expands on the band’s earlier work while pushing into more aggressive territory.
Unlike many contemporary pop-punk releases, Lose My Grip leans heavily into melodic punk traditions, emphasizing raw energy, emotional honesty, and direct songwriting. The album’s themes range from personal relationships and social uncertainty to questions about identity and stability in an increasingly unpredictable world.
Years of Change Shaped the New Record
Formed in 2016, Among Legends built its audience through self-released EPs, DIY venues, festival appearances, basement shows, and extensive touring across Canada and the United States.
The band’s debut full-length album, Take Good Care, was released in 2022 and received recognition from outlets including BrooklynVegan, Exclaim!, PunkNews, New Noise Magazine, and Idobi Radio. BrooklynVegan described the album as “one ripper after another,” helping introduce the group to a wider audience.
However, the record’s journey to release was far from straightforward. Although Take Good Care arrived in 2022, it had originally been recorded in 2019. By the time it was released, the band had already undergone significant changes, both musically and personally.
Subsequent lineup shifts ultimately reduced the group to its core members, vocalist and bassist Mitchell Buchanan and drummer Sara Fellin. Rather than disrupting the band’s trajectory, the changes provided an opportunity to redefine its identity and focus.
That process played a central role in shaping Lose My Grip.
Themes of Instability and Perseverance
Buchanan says the new album reflects both the band’s evolution and the broader sense of uncertainty experienced in recent years.
“Our last record came out four years ago, but it was recorded seven years ago. We’re not the same band anymore and I think that’s evident in the way this record sounds,” says vocalist/bassist Mitchell Buchanan. “Stability has been a hard feeling to find in recent years, and this record covers some of the different experiences that come with instability. It’s a lot of looking around and asking ‘how did we get here,’ whether that’s about the state of our countries, our communities, our relationships, or ourselves.”
Those themes are particularly evident on “Go On,” one of the album’s standout tracks. The song explores the tension between vulnerability and emotional distance, capturing the complexities of human connection amid uncertainty. While relationships, routines, and personal challenges serve as recurring themes throughout the record, the music rarely lingers in despair, instead maintaining a sense of forward momentum.
Preparing for the Road Ahead
The current recording lineup features Buchanan on bass and vocals, Sara Fellin on drums and vocals, and Tyler Boles on guitar. Bennett Rouleau has joined the group’s live lineup as Among Legends prepares to support the album with touring throughout 2026.
Across its 12 tracks, Lose My Grip delivers a mix of hook-driven punk anthems, grittier melodic hardcore influences, and emotionally charged songwriting. More importantly, it presents a band that appears fully confident in its identity after years of change.
For Among Legends, the album represents more than just a new release. It is the culmination of years spent refining their sound, overcoming setbacks, and embracing a renewed sense of purpose. As the trio prepares to bring the record to audiences across North America, Lose My Grip positions the band for its next chapter while remaining firmly rooted in the energy and authenticity that have defined its journey so far.
