Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video Prepare Global Launch of New Marvel-Inspired Series
Prime Video has released the first official trailer for “Spider-Noir,” the upcoming live-action superhero series starring Nicolas Cage, marking the Academy Award-winning actor’s first leading role in a television series.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video, the series is scheduled to premiere globally on Prime Video on May 27, 2026, in more than 240 countries and territories. The release represents another major expansion of comic book intellectual property into the streaming market as studios continue investing heavily in globally recognised franchises to drive subscriber engagement and international audience growth.
The series introduces a unique distribution approach, giving viewers the option to watch the show in either “Authentic Black & White” or “True-Hue Full Color,” a move designed to reflect the noir-inspired visual style of the original Marvel comic source material.
Global Launch Begins with Major Fan Event in Mexico City
Prime Video unveiled the trailer during a high-profile presentation at CCXPMX26 in Mexico City, described as one of the world’s largest pop culture festivals. The presentation drew approximately 2,100 attendees at the Centro Banamex Convention Center.
Cast members Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston and Karen Rodriguez joined creator, co-showrunner and executive producer Oren Uziel on stage to introduce the project and preview footage from the series. The event also featured an extended scene screening and a video greeting from Nicolas Cage.
Fans attending the convention received collectible character badges created by Mexican artist Jorge Molina, part of a broader promotional strategy surrounding the series launch.
Noir-Inspired Storyline Expands Spider-Man Franchise
“Spider-Noir” is based on the Marvel comic “Spider-Man Noir” and centres on Ben Reilly, portrayed by Nicolas Cage, a private investigator operating in 1930s New York.
The series follows the character as he confronts his past after a personal tragedy while balancing his identity as the city’s only superhero. The darker detective-driven narrative marks a stylistic departure from traditional Spider-Man adaptations and aligns with the growing popularity of genre-blending comic book storytelling in streaming entertainment.
The project also continues Sony’s strategy of expanding the Spider-Man universe through alternative characters and timelines beyond its core theatrical franchise.
High-Profile Cast and Production Team
The series features an extensive ensemble cast led by Nicolas Cage, whose previous film work includes “Adaptation” and “Pig.”
Additional cast members include Emmy Award-winning actor Lamorne Morris (“Fargo,” “New Girl”), Li Jun Li (“Sinners,” “Babylon”), Abraham Popoola (“Atlas,” “Slow Horses”), Karen Rodriguez (“The Hunting Wives,” “Acapulco”), Jack Huston (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Day of The Fight”), and Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Harry Potter”).
Guest appearances will include Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
The production team also brings together several high-profile industry figures connected to successful Marvel and prestige television projects.
Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer, known for “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve,” directed and executive produced the first two episodes.
Oren Uziel (“The Lost City,” “22 Jump Street”) and Steve Lightfoot (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Shantaram”) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.
The series was developed alongside the Academy Award-winning creative team behind “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” — Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal — all of whom also serve as executive producers.
Streaming Competition Continues to Drive Franchise Investments
The launch of “Spider-Noir” comes as streaming platforms continue competing aggressively for franchise-based content capable of attracting international audiences and retaining subscribers in an increasingly crowded digital entertainment market.
Prime Video has continued expanding its portfolio of premium scripted programming, sports rights and franchise-driven productions as part of Amazon’s broader streaming strategy.
The platform currently offers original productions including “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” “Fallout,” “Reacher” and “The Boys,” alongside third-party channel subscriptions and live sports programming.
Sony Pictures Television, meanwhile, remains one of the television industry’s largest global content producers and distributors, with operations spanning North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific markets.
MGM+, an Amazon-owned premium streaming and television platform, continues expanding its lineup of original scripted dramas, documentaries and film releases as competition intensifies among subscription-based entertainment services.
With the release of “Spider-Noir,” Sony and Prime Video are aiming to capitalise on the enduring global appeal of Marvel storytelling while introducing audiences to a darker, stylised interpretation of one of the franchise’s lesser-known characters.
