Prince Albert Launches Seasonal Roadwork Program Ahead of Summer Construction Season
Street Sweeping, Bridge Cleaning and Pothole Repairs Among Key Projects Planned Across the City
The City of Prince Albert has begun a series of seasonal street maintenance operations as municipal crews prepare roadways and infrastructure for the upcoming summer construction season. The work, which will continue over the next several weeks, includes street sweeping, bridge cleaning, line painting, pothole patching and crack sealing across multiple areas of the city.
City officials said the annual maintenance program is aimed at improving driving conditions, extending the lifespan of roads and ensuring infrastructure remains safe and functional during the busy summer months. Residents and motorists are being advised to expect occasional traffic disruptions and to use caution when travelling through active work zones.
According to the city, pre-cleaning operations for street sweeping are already underway, with full sweeping activities scheduled to begin on May 19. Crews will focus first on priority routes and main traffic corridors before moving into additional areas over the following three weeks.
Municipal officials noted that spring sweeping is an important part of seasonal road maintenance, helping remove gravel, sand and debris that accumulate over the winter. The process also improves drainage and enhances roadway safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Bridge and overpass cleaning operations are also progressing throughout the city. Crews are currently working on the Diefenbaker Bridge, the Train Bridge and Highway overpass #3 over Highway 2 North. In addition, work is expected to be completed on both city viaducts this week.
Line painting operations are expected to begin May 21, weather permitting. The city said pre-marking work has already started in preparation for repainting traffic lines and road markings across Prince Albert streets.
Officials added that clear lane markings are particularly important as traffic volumes increase during the summer construction season. Freshly painted lines are expected to improve visibility and help guide motorists safely through intersections, school zones and high-traffic corridors.
Meanwhile, pothole patching remains ongoing throughout the city as crews continue to monitor roadway conditions daily. Municipal staff said repair teams are responding to damage caused by seasonal freeze-thaw cycles that often create pavement deterioration during spring months.
Crack sealing operations are also expected to begin within the next one to three weeks. The city said sealing cracks in pavement helps prevent water infiltration and reduces the likelihood of more extensive road damage over time.
City Encourages Drivers to Use Caution in Work Zones
Residents Asked to Slow Down and Follow Posted Signage
As maintenance operations expand across Prince Albert, the city is reminding drivers to slow down and remain alert near active work sites. Officials stressed that reduced speeds and attention to posted signage are critical to protecting road crews and maintaining public safety.
“Drivers are reminded to slow down, stay alert, and give crews plenty of space when passing through active work areas,” the city said in its notice to residents.
The city added that cooperation from motorists plays a significant role in helping crews complete projects efficiently and safely.
“Following posted signage and reducing speed helps protect workers and keep everyone safe,” the notice stated.
Residents are also encouraged to report potholes and other roadway concerns through the municipality’s online City Service Request Portal. The reporting tool allows residents to notify city staff about road damage and maintenance issues requiring attention.
Municipal officials thanked residents for their patience as the maintenance season gets underway and emphasized that the work is essential to preserving transportation infrastructure throughout the community.
“The City appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as this important maintenance work gets underway.”
