Province invites organizations and businesses to apply for funding aimed at cultural and economic development
The Government of Ontario has launched the 2026–2027 Francophone Community Grants Program (FCGP), opening a new round of funding designed to support projects that strengthen French-speaking communities across the province.
Announced Thursday in Toronto by the Ontario Ministry of Francophone Affairs, the program aims to help community organizations and businesses improve access to French-language services, promote Francophone culture and expand economic opportunities for French-speaking residents.
Provincial officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to reinforce the cultural and economic vitality of Ontario’s Francophone population while ensuring organizations have the resources needed to grow and innovate.
“Ontario’s Francophonie is at the heart of our provincial identity and prosperity,” said Caroline Mulroney, Ontario’s Minister of Francophone Affairs. “Through the FCGP, our government is investing in the future of our Francophone communities and organizations, equipping them to bring forward new projects and opportunities that will power strong, sustainable economic growth in French-speaking communities for generations to come.”
Funding available for community and economic initiatives
Under the program, eligible organizations and businesses can apply for up to $50,000 in funding to support projects that directly benefit Francophones in Ontario.
Applicants must submit proposals under one of two funding streams: Community and Culture or Economic Development. Projects may include initiatives that enhance French-language services, strengthen organizational capacity, promote Francophone culture or expand bilingual employment opportunities.
Economic-focused proposals may involve developing new products and services for French-speaking consumers, supporting the recruitment and training of bilingual Francophone staff, or launching initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship and local business growth within Francophone communities.
Cultural and community-based initiatives may include festivals, educational programs or collaborative projects that highlight the province’s Francophone heritage while strengthening social connections within French-speaking populations.
According to the provincial government, the program plays an important role in ensuring that French-speaking Ontarians continue to have access to services, programs and cultural experiences in their language.
Application window open until April 23
Applications for the latest funding round opened March 12, 2026, and must be submitted through the province’s Transfer Payment Ontario portal before 5 p.m. Eastern Time on April 23, 2026.
Officials encourage potential applicants to consult with regional development advisors prior to submitting proposals to ensure projects align with program objectives.
The ministry will also host two virtual information sessions for applicants. A French-language session is scheduled for March 25, followed by an English session on March 26. Both sessions will be recorded and made available online for organizations unable to attend live.
The call for proposals will remain open for six weeks, after which applications will be reviewed by the ministry. Selected projects are expected to be announced in summer 2026, with all funded initiatives required to be completed by March 31, 2027.
Program has supported hundreds of projects
Since the program’s introduction in 2018, the provincial government says it has distributed approximately $16 million in funding to more than 260 organizations across Ontario.
Those investments have supported a wide range of initiatives, including business development programs, Francophone cultural festivals, language training opportunities and community-led projects designed to strengthen local French-speaking networks.
In the most recent funding cycle for 2025–2026, the program supported 71 projects across the province.
Officials say the continued expansion of the grants program reflects Ontario’s long-term commitment to protecting and strengthening Francophone communities.
By supporting projects that enhance services, celebrate culture and encourage economic development, the province aims to ensure that Francophone communities remain a dynamic and growing part of Ontario’s social and economic landscape.
