Prime Video has set May 27, 2026, as the global premiere date for Spider-Noir, a new live-action series starring Nicolas Cage in his first leading role in a television production.
The series, produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video, will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel on May 25 before launching worldwide on Prime Video two days later. The series will roll out as a binge release across more than 240 countries and territories.
In a nod to its stylistic roots, Spider-Noir will be available in two viewing formats: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color,” allowing audiences to select their preferred visual experience.
The series is based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir and centres on Ben Reilly, portrayed by Cage, a private investigator in 1930s New York. The character, described as seasoned and down on his luck, is compelled to confront his past life as the city’s sole superhero following a deeply personal tragedy.
Cage, an Academy Award-winning actor known for roles in films such as Adaptation and Pig, headlines an ensemble cast that blends established award winners with emerging talent. The cast includes Emmy Award-winner Lamorne Morris (Fargo, New Girl), Li Jun Li (Sinners, Babylon), Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives, Acapulco), and Abraham Popoola (Atlas, Slow Horses).
They are joined by SAG Award-winner Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Day of The Fight) and Emmy Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, Harry Potter). Guest appearances will feature Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson and Kai Caster.
Behind the camera, Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) directed and executive produced the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher, Shantaram) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.
Uziel and Lightfoot developed the series alongside the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal. Lord and Miller executive produce under their Lord Miller banner, joined by Aditya Sood and Dan Shear. Pascal executive produces via Pascal Pictures. Cage and Pavlina Hatoupis are also credited as executive producers.
The project underscores Prime Video’s continued investment in franchise-driven original programming as competition intensifies in the global streaming market. By pairing established intellectual property with high-profile talent such as Cage, the platform is positioning Spider-Noir as a marquee release within its 2026 slate.
In Canada, Prime Video continues to expand its content offering, which includes live sports such as Prime Monday Night Hockey, along with original productions and licensed programming. The service operates as a standalone entertainment destination, offering films, series, documentaries and live events through a single application accessible on thousands of devices.
Prime Video also offers subscription add-ons through Prime Video Channels, providing access to Canadian and international services including Sportsnet, Paramount+, Crave, Citytv+, STARZ, AMC+, Super Channel, BritBox, Hayu and STACKTV. Consumers can additionally rent or purchase films through the Prime Video Store, regardless of Prime membership status.
The launch strategy for Spider-Noir—with an initial MGM+ broadcast window followed by a global streaming rollout—reflects the increasingly hybrid distribution models adopted by studios seeking to maximize audience reach across both linear and digital platforms.
With its period setting, dual-format presentation and established creative team, Spider-Noir represents one of Prime Video’s most ambitious scripted projects for 2026. Industry observers will be watching closely to see whether the noir-styled superhero adaptation can translate its distinctive visual approach and franchise pedigree into subscriber growth and sustained viewership in an increasingly crowded streaming landscape.
