The meeting will take place in the Piazzale tomorrow, Saturday, June 10th at 2:30 pm. The event will then pass through some of the “symbolic” places in the city

There are now about seventy assemblies, associations and individuals who have joined and expressed their support for the appeal statement launched by the People’s Assembly in light of the “Spatial People’s Demonstration Let’s Make Room” scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 10 June, starting at 2:30 pm Lugano time.

The People’s Assembly, as a first step, would traverse the streets and squares of the city starting from Piazza Pisso, “one – they write – of the central places for various situations remote from our need to make way.” An area “of urban transformation, once popular and now associated with speculation and large redevelopment investments, such as the ‘Castle of Music’ proposed in the current RSI studies”. A neighborhood “with closed and abandoned buildings such as the former post office and a former canteen, and a neighborhood that is “clean” through racial profiling, immigrant interception and police withdrawals. Not forgetting the historic logging.”

The procession then passes through some places where “the emptiness that exists in a commodified, gentrified city-canton, associated with the ongoing speculation between bitcoin and cryptocurrency and the demolition of historic buildings, intensifies.”

The popular assembly, which was born two years after the evacuation of the former slaughterhouse, intends to “express a series of collective needs that it intends to defend through joint actions.” First of all, it was decided to draw attention to “the need for ‘other spaces’ for expression, support, welcome, reflection and sharing”. Hence the invitation to participate in tomorrow’s popular parade.
