Today, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, a themed meeting was held at Itis Magistri Cumacini. Marie Curie was shown between 9 and 12 this morning.
Marie Curie is an important person to remember today, March 8, because not only was she the first woman to win a Nobel Prize (she won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 thanks to studies done on radiation with her husband Pierre Curie and Antoine-Henri Becquerel; she was appointed to chemistry instead from that in 1911, after the discovery of radium and polonium), but she fought all her life so that, like herself, other women could be recognized for their skills and abilities within a society dominated by men in early twentieth century France
After watching the film, a discussion about the role of women in science ensued: the discussion saw the students of the Institute (a predominantly male school) and Professor Michela Birst, who teaches physics at Insupria University, as the protagonists. This event is organized by CGIL, CISL and UIL in collaboration with other institutes.
