Prime Video has released the official trailer and key art for the second season of Cross, signalling the return of one of its most successful crime thrillers early next year. The new season of the series, starring and executive produced by Aldis Hodge, is scheduled to premiere on February 11, 2026, with a global rollout across more than 240 countries and territories.
The second season will launch with three episodes, followed by weekly releases leading up to the season finale on March 18, 2026. Screeners are currently available via screeners.com or by request, according to the studio.
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios, Cross is based on characters created by bestselling author James Patterson and is set in Washington, D.C. The series centres on Alex Cross, a homicide detective and forensic psychologist whose ability to understand the psychology of violent criminals places him at the centre of some of the city’s most dangerous investigations.
The show’s first season delivered strong performance metrics for Prime Video, generating more than 40 million viewers globally within its first 20 days. That audience response established Cross as a breakout hit for the platform and laid the groundwork for an expanded and higher-stakes follow-up.
Season two moves the story into more perilous territory with the introduction of Lance Durand, a powerful billionaire business figure portrayed by Matthew Lillard. Durand seeks FBI protection after receiving a death threat that appears connected to the killing of a billionaire playboy. The investigation places Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig at the centre of a joint operation to protect Durand while tracking a killer who leaves behind disturbing and elaborate clues.
The season also deepens the personal stakes for Cross through developments involving his longtime partner and closest friend, John Sampson. As the investigation unfolds, Sampson makes an unexpected connection that adds another layer of complexity to the case and to his relationship with Cross.
In addition to Lillard, the upcoming season expands the ensemble with new cast members Jeanine Mason and Wes Chatham. They join returning cast members Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd and Johnny Ray Gill.
The series is created by executive producer and showrunner Ben Watkins, who also appears in a recurring role during the second season. Executive producers alongside Watkins and Hodge include Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, J. David Shanks, Aiyana White, Craig Siebels, Owen Shiflett, James Patterson, Bill Robinson and Patrick Santa.
From a business perspective, Cross continues to illustrate Prime Video’s strategy of investing in globally recognisable intellectual property with strong franchise potential. The expansion of the cast, the escalation of the narrative scope and the weekly release structure reflect a broader effort by the streaming service to sustain subscriber engagement over longer viewing windows rather than relying solely on binge releases.
Prime Video positions itself as a central hub for premium entertainment, combining original programming from Amazon MGM Studios with licensed content, live sports and third-party streaming add-ons. Flagship series such as Cross play a key role in differentiating the platform in an increasingly competitive global streaming market.
With its February 2026 premiere now confirmed and marketing assets in circulation, the second season of Cross enters the coming year as one of Prime Video’s most closely watched scripted releases, carrying the momentum of a strong debut season and heightened expectations from both audiences and industry observers.
