BritBox has released a second collection of promotional images from its upcoming three-part special of The Other Bennet Sister, offering audiences an early look at returning cast members and new characters as the period drama continues Mary Bennet’s story.
Produced by Bad Wolf for BritBox North America and the BBC, the special recently completed filming in Wales. The three additional 30-minute episodes will continue the narrative established during the series’ original ten-episode run.
The announcement follows strong streaming performance in North America, where BritBox reported record subscriber acquisition and audience engagement associated with the show’s launch.
The Other Bennet Sister Special Brings Back Familiar Characters
The newly released images feature several returning performers from the Regency-era drama, including Ruth Jones (Gavin & Stacey, Runaway) as Mrs. Bennet and Tanya Reynolds (Ted Lasso, Sex Education) as Caroline Bingley.
Laurie Davidson (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, The Girlfriend) returns as Mr. Ryder, while Poppy Gilbert (My Oxford Year, Chloe) reprises her role as Lizzie Darcy.
Other returning cast members include Maddie Close as Jane Bingley, Grace Hogg-Robinson as Lydia Wickham and Molly Wright as Kitty Buncock.
Ella Bruccoleri and Dónal Finn Lead Mary’s Next Chapter
Ella Bruccoleri (Down Cemetery Road, Wicker) returns in the central role of Mary Bennet, alongside Dónal Finn (Young Sherlock, SAS Rogue Heroes) as Tom Hayward.
The original series concluded with Mary agreeing to marry Tom, establishing the foundation for the upcoming continuation.
The special explores Mary’s transition into married life and the challenges of establishing her identity as Mrs. Hayward.
Her new circumstances become more complicated when an unexpected visitor from her past arrives seeking assistance, introducing another challenge as she adjusts to her changed position.
The production also introduces Nerys Amber Stocks (Out There, Mammoth) as Lucy, the Hayward family’s housekeeper.
BritBox Reports Record Streaming Performance in North America
The decision to extend The Other Bennet Sister follows what BritBox describes as exceptional commercial performance during the show’s first 90 days on its North American streaming service.
According to the company, the series attracted five times more new subscribers than any previous title launch and achieved the platform’s highest streaming rate for a newly released program.
BritBox also reported that 47% of its active subscribers watched the series during that period.
The production contributed to the strongest quarterly subscriber growth in the streaming service’s history, alongside its highest recorded week of new signups.
These figures highlight the commercial importance of British period dramas within the competitive North American subscription streaming market, particularly as platforms seek programming capable of attracting and retaining subscribers.
Creative Team Returns for Three Additional Episodes
Screenwriter Sarah Quintrell (The Power, Ellen), who wrote nine episodes of the original series, has scripted all three instalments of the special.
The new episodes are based on storylines developed by novelist Janice Hadlow, whose book inspired the television adaptation.
Director Asim Abbasi (Cake) also returns.
Hadlow’s original novel reimagines the experiences of Mary Bennet, the frequently overlooked middle sister from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
The adaptation examines Mary’s search for independence, belonging and personal fulfilment within the social expectations of Regency England, where marriage strongly influences women’s economic security and social standing.
BBC and BritBox Continue International Production Partnership
The special was commissioned by Jon Farrar, Chief Content Officer, Direct to Consumer, BBC Studios, for BritBox North America, and Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, for BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
Executive producers include Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf, alongside representatives from the BBC and BritBox, Sarah Quintrell and Janice Hadlow.
Bad Wolf executives Dan McCulloch and Ryan Rasmussen oversaw the development of the special.
The Wales-based production company, known for His Dark Materials and Industry, receives support from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales.
Sony Pictures Television is responsible for international distribution.
Exclusive Streaming Planned for Canada and the United States
The three-part special will stream exclusively on BritBox in Canada and the United States, while British audiences will be able to watch through BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
An official premiere date has not yet been announced.
With strong audience engagement already established, The Other Bennet Sister represents a significant title for BritBox’s North American programming strategy as the streaming service continues investing in British scripted entertainment and international production partnerships.
