VANCOUVER, B.C., October 19, 2026 — The Vancouver Sun Run has announced the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) as its new Headline Charity Partner for 2027, introducing fundraising initiatives that will allow runners, walkers and participating teams to support cancer research and patient services while taking part in one of Canada’s largest road races.
The partnership expands the Vancouver Sun Run Charity Program, sponsored by Sentinel Storage, with two fundraising opportunities: Raise to Race and Team Fundraising. The initiatives are designed to encourage individual and collective donations while strengthening the event’s longstanding commitment to community involvement.
Vancouver Sun Run Introduces Raise to Race Fundraising Program
The Vancouver Sun Run, presented by Herbaland Naturals, will offer 500 complimentary registrations for its 2027 event through a limited Raise to Race initiative.
Participants who commit to raising at least $350 for the Canadian Cancer Society will qualify for a $0 race registration fee. The available registrations will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The initial offering precedes the full Raise to Race program launch scheduled for December 2026.
Participants Can Support Cancer Research Through Individual Fundraising
Each registered Raise to Race participant will receive a personalized fundraising page to collect contributions from friends, family members, colleagues and other supporters.
Funds raised through the initiative will support the Canadian Cancer Society’s work in cancer research, patient support services, public education and advocacy.
The fundraising model connects participation in the annual 10-kilometre event with charitable giving, allowing individuals to pursue personal fitness goals while contributing to cancer-related programs across Canada.
Team Fundraising Expands Corporate and Community Participation
Alongside the individual fundraising initiative, the Vancouver Sun Run will introduce Team Fundraising for registered groups participating in the 2027 race.
The program will allow corporate teams, community organizations, families and groups of friends to establish shared fundraising goals supporting the Canadian Cancer Society.
Participants will be encouraged to involve their workplaces and personal networks in collective fundraising efforts.
For businesses participating in the Sun Run, the initiative provides an opportunity to combine employee wellness activities with charitable fundraising and community engagement.
Organizers Emphasize Community Impact
Tim Hopkins, Race Director of the Vancouver Sun Run, said the partnership builds on the event’s history of supporting community causes.
“Community impact has always been at the heart of the Vancouver Sun Run, and our partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society takes that commitment to a whole new level,” said Tim Hopkins, Race Director. “The Raise to Race Program provides an incredible opportunity for our runners and walkers to combine their personal fitness goals with a cause that touches almost every family in Canada. We can’t wait to see thousands of Sun Runners lining up this April to run not just for themselves, but for a world without cancer.”
Andrea Seale, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Cancer Society, highlighted the importance of collective participation in addressing the impact of cancer.
“We are thrilled to unite with the Vancouver Sun Run, an iconic West Coast tradition that brings people together through movement, community and shared purpose,” said Andrea Seale, Chief Executive Officer at the Canadian Cancer Society. “Cancer has an immense impact on people, their loved ones and communities. We know that nothing this big gets solved by one person or one organization. This partnership will empower Sun Runners to drive collective action against cancer and help create lasting change for people across Canada.”
2027 Vancouver Sun Run Marks 42 Years of Community Fitness
Established in 1985, the Vancouver Sun Run will celebrate its 42nd anniversary in 2027. The event welcomes runners, walkers and wheelers of different ages and abilities and is recognized as one of North America’s largest timed 10K road races.
The event’s presenting sponsor, Richmond-based Herbaland Naturals, produces natural health products and holds certifications as a diversity-owned business and Benefit Corporation.
The Canadian Cancer Society, meanwhile, funds cancer research, provides support and information to people affected by cancer, and advocates for policies intended to improve health outcomes.
The new partnership adds a national charitable organization to the Sun Run’s fundraising activities, with opportunities for both individual participants and organized teams.
Further information about eligibility, fundraising initiatives and participating charities is available through the official Vancouver Sun Run Charity Program.
With the limited Raise to Race registrations and expanded team fundraising opportunities, the 2027 Vancouver Sun Run aims to increase charitable participation while continuing its annual focus on fitness, health and community engagement.
