Danish progressive metal band KINETIC has released “Dyson,” the second single and music video from its upcoming debut full-length album, Liminal, as the group prepares to expand its international presence through Eclipse Records.
The 11-track album is scheduled for release on October 16, 2026, and follows KINETIC’s 2025 debut EP, Sentience. Running 106 minutes, Liminal combines progressive metal, cinematic arrangements and science-inspired storytelling in a concept album examining technological development, human conflict and civilization’s potential future.
The new “Dyson” video, directed by keyboardist Marcus H. Levin, explores isolation, paranoia and the shifting boundary between reality and individual perception.
‘Dyson’ Explores Internal Conflict Through Progressive Metal
“Dyson” is the second of three music videos planned around Liminal. Musically, KINETIC draws from atmospheric and progressive influences while emphasizing long-form arrangements rather than relying primarily on conventional verse-and-chorus structures.
The accompanying video follows a central character whose understanding of reality becomes increasingly uncertain. An unseen presence follows the protagonist, representing internal fears and unresolved emotions rather than a physical threat.
“We chose Dyson as a music video because it is one of the album’s most immediately accessible songs” explains keyboardist Marcus. “At times, the audience is immersed in the central character’s distorted perception of reality; at others they observe him from an external perspective. Throughout the video, the protagonist is persistently haunted by an unseen presence – a manifestation of his own paranoia, inner struggles and unresolved emotions rather than a physical threat. The result is a visual journey that blurs the line between reality and perception, reflecting the psychological themes at the heart of the song, which is that many of humanity’s greatest struggles and conflicts originate from within ourselves. The message is a reflection on whether we can overcome those internal conflicts, step outside our own perspectives, and learn to see ourselves and each other more objectively.”
Music Video Adds Visual Layer to Album’s Concept
The video’s psychological themes complement the larger narrative behind Liminal, which connects questions about technological advancement with the personal and social conflicts that may accompany it.
KINETIC, which emerged from Kolding, Denmark, consists of René Hougaard on lead vocals, David Thing on guitar and backing vocals, Christian Filskov Heitmann on bass, Levin on synthesizer and Rune Görlitz on drums.
The project marks the band’s first full-length release through Eclipse Records.
‘Liminal’ Draws Inspiration From the Kardashev Scale
At the centre of Liminal is the Kardashev Scale, the theoretical framework developed by astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev to categorize civilizations according to the amount of energy they can harness.
KINETIC uses that scientific concept as the foundation for an overarching narrative extending from the album’s opening track through its finale.
The record begins with “Beginnings” and continues through “Evolution,” “New Frontiers,” “Type 0.75,” “Fermi,” “Progress to One” and “Dyson.” The remaining tracks are “Journey to the Stars,” “Digital Mind,” “2 to Five” and closing track “Omega.”
Rather than presenting the concept only through lyrics, the band has structured its compositions to reflect the scale of the subject matter. Extended arrangements and atmospheric sections are intended to create a more cinematic progression across the 106-minute recording.
Production Builds on KINETIC’s 2025 Debut EP
Liminal represents a significant expansion from Sentience, the EP KINETIC released in 2025.
Frederik Uglebjerg, whose credits include Galge, MØL, Trold and Isbjörg, produced, engineered, mixed and mastered the new album. Lasse H. Görlitz and Marcus H. Levin created the album artwork.
The combination of an extended runtime, interconnected storyline and multiple music videos positions Liminal as a substantially larger project for the emerging Danish group as it works to reach listeners beyond its home market.
KINETIC Prepares for October Album Release
With “Dyson,” KINETIC is providing another preview of how Liminal connects progressive metal with broader philosophical and scientific themes.
The album’s October 16 release will give the group its first full-length project and represents another step in its relationship with Eclipse Records.
For KINETIC, the record also serves as an opportunity to build on the foundation established by Sentience while introducing a more ambitious conceptual approach. Through its combination of technical musicianship, cinematic production and a narrative spanning space, technology and human psychology, Liminal is designed as a continuous listening experience rather than a collection of unrelated tracks.
