Ontario has started construction on a major expansion of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, committing up to $154.8 million to add more than 100 inpatient beds and approximately 79,000 square feet of renovated acute-care space. The project is expected to support about 200 construction jobs while expanding hospital capacity for one of the fastest-growing areas in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton region.
The project at Halton Healthcare’s Oakville hospital is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027 and forms part of Ontario’s broader $64-billion hospital infrastructure program.
Oakville Hospital Expansion to Add 111 Beds
The redevelopment will add up to 111 inpatient beds and modernize approximately 79,000 square feet of hospital space, increasing acute-care capacity for patients in Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills and surrounding communities.
Halton Healthcare’s hospitals and community services serve nearly 400,000 residents across the region.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Halton and surrounding regions can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “As part of our $64 billion health infrastructure plan, today’s milestone means more families in the region will have access to world-class hospital care, closer to home.”
The province said the additional capacity is intended to reduce wait times and ease pressure on existing services as Halton’s population continues to grow.
Construction Expected to Support About 200 Jobs
Beyond the health-care impact, the project is expected to support approximately 200 jobs during construction.

Milton District Hospital Also Receiving Additional Capacity
Ontario is also supporting renovations at Milton District Hospital. Once completed, that project is expected to create room for 12 additional inpatient beds and support dozens of construction jobs.

Province Expands Hospital Infrastructure Spending
Ontario plans to invest approximately $64 billion in major health infrastructure over the next decade, covering more than 50 major hospital projects and about 3,000 additional beds. The province says those beds will be in addition to approximately 3,500 added since 2020.
For 2026-27, Ontario is also investing more than $281 million in infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 126 hospitals and 67 community health-care facilities, representing a 9.4 per cent increase from the previous year. Halton Healthcare is set to receive more than $1.7 million through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.

Expansion Targets Growing Health-Care Demand in Halton
The Oakville project represents a significant addition to hospital capacity in Halton as the region manages continued residential and economic growth.
