Prime Video has released the official trailer for Drawn Together, an international original romantic thriller starring Ester Expósito and Hugo Diego García. The film, adapted from bestselling author Mercedes Ron’s Enfrentados duology, is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on September 9 in more than 240 countries and territories, including Canada.
The upcoming release represents the latest collaboration between Prime Video and Ron, whose novels have become a growing source of streaming adaptations. Drawn Together is the first instalment of the two-part Enfrentados adaptation, which also includes Drawn Apart.
Drawn Together Adapts Mercedes Ron’s Enfrentados Duology
The film is based on the first book in Ron’s Enfrentados series. Ron, a New York Times and international bestselling author, has previously worked with Prime Video on screen adaptations of her Culpables trilogy and Tell Me Softly.
The latest project extends that relationship into a romantic thriller built around danger, family wealth and an unexpected relationship between its central characters.
Ester Expósito, known for Venus, stars as Marfil Cortés, the daughter of a Spanish business tycoon. Hugo Diego García, whose credits include The Substance, plays Sebastian Moore, a mysterious bodyguard assigned to protect her.
Kidnapping Sets the Story in Motion
Marfil begins the story living a privileged life in New York before she is suddenly kidnapped and later released under unexplained circumstances.
Concerned about continuing threats to his daughter, her father assigns Sebastian as her personal bodyguard. Marfil’s independent personality initially conflicts with Sebastian’s reserved and professional approach, but the relationship between the two gradually changes.
Their growing attraction develops as the story moves from New York to Spain, where new dangers emerge and questions surrounding Marfil’s kidnapping deepen.
The story combines romantic drama with thriller elements as the characters attempt to determine who can be trusted while confronting threats that become increasingly personal.
International Cast Joins Expósito and García
Alongside Expósito and García, Drawn Together features a supporting cast drawn from Spanish-language and international film and television productions.
Eric Masip, known for Through My Window, plays Iván, while Pablo Molinero of A Private Affair appears as Alejandro. Zoe Bonafonte, whose credits include The 47, plays Gabriela.
The cast also includes Lluís Homar of Los Abrazos Rotos as Logan and Joaquín Ferreira, known for Club de Cuervos, as Ray.
The combination of performers reflects the production’s international ambitions as Prime Video prepares to distribute the movie simultaneously across its global streaming footprint.
Pokeepsie Films Produces Both Films
Drawn Together and its follow-up, Drawn Apart, are produced by Pokeepsie Films, part of Banijay Iberia. The production company has previously worked on titles including Veneciafrenia, 30 monedas and El bar.
Filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia and Carolina Bang serve as producers on the two adaptations.
Óscar Pedraza, whose previous credits include Patria and Vivir Sin Permiso, directs the films. Sofía Cuenca, who worked on Culpa Tuya and Culpa Nuestra, serves as screenwriter.
Prime Video Expands Its Mercedes Ron Adaptations
The Enfrentados films mark the third stage of Prime Video’s collaboration with Ron following adaptations of the Culpables trilogy and Tell Me Softly.
The continued partnership comes as streaming services increasingly look to established literary properties with existing international audiences for new film and television projects.
For Prime Video, Drawn Together also adds another internationally produced title to a service that competes for Canadian viewers across movies, television and live sports.
Canadian Subscribers Get September 9 Access
In Canada, Prime Video’s broader offering includes original and licensed movies and series alongside sports programming such as the NHL, NBA, WNBA and PWHL. The platform also provides access to additional streaming subscriptions and titles available for rental or purchase.
Drawn Together will be included as part of a Prime subscription when it premieres September 9.
With an established bestselling property, an international cast and a thriller-driven adaptation of Ron’s romantic storytelling, Drawn Together represents the latest effort to bring the author’s readership to the screen. The second instalment, Drawn Apart, will continue the Enfrentados adaptation.
