Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is bringing Minions & Monsters, the latest installment in Illumination’s blockbuster animated franchise, to home audiences this summer. Following a successful theatrical run, the film will debut on digital retail platforms on August 11, 2026, before arriving on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on September 8, 2026, giving Canadian families early access months ahead of its availability on subscription streaming services.
The home entertainment release includes more than 45 minutes of exclusive bonus features, offering behind-the-scenes content, filmmaker insights and interactive activities designed to extend the viewing experience for fans of the globally popular franchise.
Digital Release Arrives Ahead of Physical Formats
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced that Minions & Monsters will be available for digital purchase beginning August 11, allowing audiences to watch the film at home well before its physical release.
The animated feature, which earned an A- CinemaScore and a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has been described by The Wrap as “the best of the franchise.” It marks the third installment in the Minions film series and continues Illumination’s expansion of one of the world’s highest-grossing animated franchises.
The story follows James, Henry, Ed and the Minions as they attempt to conquer Hollywood. Their ambitions quickly spiral into chaos after they unleash monsters upon the world, forcing the unlikely heroes to work together to save the planet from the consequences of their own actions.

Hollywood Talent Leads Voice Cast
The film features an ensemble voice cast led by seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney, alongside Academy Award winners Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges, Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Emmy nominee Bobby Moynihan, and Phil LaMarr.
The Minions are once again voiced by Academy Award nominee Pierre Coffin, who also directs the film alongside co-director Patrick Delage.
The screenplay was written by Brian Lynch and Pierre Coffin, while Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri produced the film with Bill Ryan. Chris Renaud serves as executive producer alongside Lynch, while acclaimed composer John Powell returns to score the film.
Exclusive Bonus Features Expand the Home Viewing Experience
Behind-the-Scenes Access and Family Activities
The digital and physical releases include more than 45 minutes of bonus material that explores the creative process behind the film.
Among the featured content is Minions Take on Hollywood, which examines how Illumination’s artists and filmmakers recreated early Hollywood through historical research, storytelling and modern animation techniques.
Another feature, Casting Minions & Monsters, gives audiences a closer look at the actors behind the characters and their contributions to the film.
Fans can also explore Hollywood Sound, featuring composer John Powell discussing how he developed a musical score inspired by the style of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
The home release also includes interactive family-friendly activities, including a step-by-step slime-making tutorial hosted by influencer Snoopslimes, a guide to creating a Minions-inspired flipbook monster movie, and a drawing lesson led by Head of Story Nima Azarba, teaching viewers how to illustrate Minions, monsters and several of the film’s original characters.
Canadian Home Entertainment Release Includes Bilingual Support
The Canadian editions of the 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD releases include English, French Canadian, and Latin American Spanish language options, along with English SDH subtitles.
The physical editions carry a PG rating for violence, action, language and rude or macabre humour, with a runtime of approximately 90 minutes. Canadian packaging will feature dedicated UPC codes for the domestic market.
Universal Continues to Expand Its Home Entertainment Portfolio
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment said the release reflects the company’s continued focus on bringing major theatrical titles to audiences through premium digital platforms before subscription streaming availability.
The strategy provides consumers with earlier access while adding exclusive content unavailable during theatrical exhibition.
As part of Universal Film and NBCUniversal, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment distributes films and television programming across physical and digital formats worldwide, supporting one of the industry’s largest entertainment libraries.
With its combination of early digital availability, extensive bonus features and family-focused activities, Minions & Monsters is positioned to build on the franchise’s global popularity as it transitions from cinemas to home entertainment, offering Canadian audiences an expanded viewing experience ahead of the fall physical release.
