CAMBRIDGE, Ontario — The City of Cambridge has received a $100,000 sponsorship from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC) to help fund the revitalization of the Kinsmen Stadium Fieldhouse, a key community sports facility located at Riverside Park.
The investment will contribute to a significant transformation of the well-used fieldhouse—also known as Kin 1 Diamond—into a modern, inclusive, and high-performance venue designed to enhance accessibility and create an enjoyable experience for both players and spectators.
“I want to thank Toyota Motor Manufacturing once again for their generosity. Without the spirit of their sponsorship, we wouldn’t be able to provide for the community the way we do. The Toyota Fieldhouse represents more than just an investment in infrastructure. It’s an investment in people, inclusion, and the shared experiences that bring our community together,” said Mayor Jan Liggett. “Having a fun, safe and accessible space for all players, visitors and residents to enjoy is at the heart of the Cambridge experience.”
Revitalizing a Community Landmark
The Kinsmen Stadium Fieldhouse revitalization will see wide-ranging improvements aimed at making the space accessible, comfortable, and environmentally sustainable. Planned upgrades include a fully accessible parking area, new hard-surface pathways, and enhanced spectator seating that ensures barrier-free movement throughout the site.
Players will benefit from new covered dugouts, while the diamond will feature a state-of-the-art artificial turf infield paired with a natural turf outfield, maintaining the park’s traditional green landscape. Additional upgrades include new changerooms and washrooms, as well as an expanded licensed concession area with a patio to create a more vibrant and welcoming environment for community gatherings and events.
The revitalization project underscores the city’s goal of creating inclusive public spaces that reflect Cambridge’s community spirit and commitment to accessibility. The partnership with TMMC reinforces the automaker’s ongoing contributions to the local area, where it has maintained a major presence for more than 35 years.
Toyota’s Legacy of Community Partnership
TMMC, one of Waterloo Region’s largest employers, has a long-standing history of supporting community initiatives focused on health, education, and recreation. The company’s latest contribution to the Kinsmen Stadium project continues its legacy of corporate citizenship and investment in spaces that foster active, healthy lifestyles.
The City of Cambridge expressed gratitude for the automaker’s continued engagement in projects that promote inclusion and social well-being. “The City of Cambridge thanks TMMC for its continued support and partnership in helping to create vibrant, accessible, and inclusive spaces in the city,” officials said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
Part of the “Play it Forward Cambridge” Campaign
The sponsorship forms part of Play it Forward Cambridge, a city-led fundraising campaign that aims to support the capital costs of several major recreation infrastructure projects. These include the renovation of Kin 1 Diamond, upgrades to the Preston Memorial Auditorium, construction of the Cambridge Recreation Complex, and the recently completed Cambridge Soccer Complex.
Play it Forward Cambridge focuses on building spaces that encourage health, wellness, and community belonging—key goals of the city’s strategic vision, Cambridge Connected. The campaign emphasizes collaboration between the municipality, local businesses, and residents to invest in public amenities that enhance quality of life.
City officials note that the revitalization of the Kinsmen Stadium Fieldhouse will benefit local sports teams, youth leagues, and families alike. The improvements are designed to support both competitive play and community recreation while providing a more inclusive environment for visitors of all abilities.
A Shared Vision for an Inclusive Cambridge
The revitalized Toyota Fieldhouse is expected to become a focal point for community activity in Riverside Park, reflecting Cambridge’s growing commitment to modern, accessible recreation infrastructure.
“The Toyota Fieldhouse represents more than just an investment in infrastructure,” said Mayor Liggett in her remarks. “It’s an investment in people, inclusion, and the shared experiences that bring our community together.”
By partnering with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada, the city is advancing its broader mission of connecting residents through recreation and shared public spaces. The project is also expected to attract visitors from across the region, providing an economic boost to local businesses and reinforcing Cambridge’s reputation as a vibrant and family-friendly city.
As construction progresses, residents can look forward to a state-of-the-art facility that blends sustainability, accessibility, and community engagement—hallmarks of Cambridge’s approach to urban renewal.
