‘Lost Daughter’ wins at the Independent Film Academy Awards – Ultima Aura

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, March 6 – Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “Lost Daughter” based on Elena Ferrante’s novel has won the Independent Film Awards. The drama about the taboos and challenges surrounding being a mother won Best Picture at the Soul Awards, along with the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Director.

The Independent Spirit Film Awards are given to low- and mid-budget films worth up to $22.5 million. The Lost Daughter earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress, Olivia Colman. “My film speaks an extraordinary language: the language of women’s minds,” Gyllenhaal said, with the awards dedicated to “Women in Cinema.”

Netflix has won six awards, including two for “Passing,” the drama about an African-American chosen for white in 1920s Harlem, and another for the South Korean series “Squid Game.” The Japanese movie “Drive My Car” won the Best International Film award. Among the films that made it to the final, there was also, with three nominations, Jonas Carpignano’s “A Chiara,” an Italian-French-Swedish-Danish co-production that sees a Calabrian teenager discover the criminal involvement of her father (Ansa).
