“Choosing to go into aeronautical engineering was a bet to fulfill a dream,” says the young man from Kantouri, “since I was a child I had always loved numbers and mathematics. Very difficult path

“It was a very difficult path, but in hindsight it was the right choice for me, that I decided to continue on this path – explains Masco – I already enrolled in a master’s degree in aerospace engineering because I would like to become a propulsion engineer, or the person who designs systems launch, even if I knew that if everything went as planned, I would have to leave Italy to do the job in spite of myself.”

Three intense years full of sacrifices

“The result was a work of about 100 pages that I really enjoyed doing as a conclusion to my three-year course,” explained the student from Kanto, who is preparing to return to class in September.

“It was three very intense years, between the pandemic and the lockdown,” Masaoko recalls, “but I decided to take advantage of that period when nothing else could be done to devote myself entirely to studying. Especially during the first lockdown, I devoted 95% of my time to lessons and studying.”

The sacrifices that nevertheless allowed him to be able to pursue his dream and that may allow him to make history in the near future.

Some of the political choices made on the occasion of voting come more from dissent or protest than from upholding political and cultural values, hoping (hope is a search for light) to bring about fundamental changes.

A lot of times we look at global politics in particular at fiscal policy. We report to the United States, China and India as if some ray is coming from there. We seek light in the science we relied on during the pandemic. Even in our ordinary or serious illnesses, our first thought turns to medical science: from there we expect a solution, light, and hope. For example, the new hospital in our city is a hymn to science and scientific research. Science and technology, once again, will unite for the advancement of our society and thus to create service excellence.

Even considering the current war in Ukraine, we debate support options: more funding for weapons or political dialogues and mediation? But is it possible to find a solution between an occupying country and an attacking country without returning to the conditions that existed before the aggression? Without technology, science, politics and finance, there is no progress and no peace. These are the components that we’re looking at and that we’re waiting for some light on.

Is there room in all this for the light whose radiance we sing tonight? Is there room for tenderness and fragility of the child? What is this great light that appears in the midst of darkness?

Yes, there is room, and it is an important, fundamental and indispensable place, provided that our eyes change and dare to look at what science, technology, politics and finance cannot achieve or overcome: «The essential is invisible to the eye», Saint-Exupéry said, “One can see well only with the heart “.

There is a state of limitations in man and in the world, extreme poverty, a sky that no tower can conquer, a tree whose fruit cannot be plucked, an age of life in which it cannot be bred: the barrenness of Elizabeth, the old age of Zacharias, the virginity of Mary is the story of our limitations, of the limitations of every man and every woman and our human society.

It is not a question of underestimating or underestimating our intelligence and capabilities.
