Nola beats Pomigliano in the cup –

Posted by

Nola started strongly and took the lead after 5 minutes: a clash in the area allowed Velosa, the fastest, to score past D’Aquino. Pomigliano was hit, but immediately tried to respond: in the 9th minute, Siciliano came close to equalizing with a curling shot that hit the post defended by Angarelli. In the 25th minute, Nola had to deal with a serious injury to Dentis, who had to leave the field on a stretcher after suffering a blow to his ankle. The “Jubato” crowd, already full for the first match of the season, applauded him when he came off.

In the 29th minute, Dell’Orfanello came close to doubling Nola’s lead but his shot hit the post. The scorching heat affected both teams’ performances but neither side relinquished the initiative. Pomigliano looked for an equaliser while Nola defended himself and started the counterattack. In the second half, the new Cacavallo put the opposition defence in trouble with a series of shots but they missed the target. In the 85th minute, Pomigliano created the last chance of the match through Diop who hit the outside of the post.

The match ends with Nola, who prepared well for the match, winning three important points on his way to the cup.

“I am happy with the players, although we clearly have to improve,” said coach Francesco Farina. “These matches provide important answers and allow us to try different solutions, especially when players adapt to different roles. It was important to win, and we certainly dedicate this victory to the fans, to the president and to Pietro Dentis.”
