Grassroots movement fights against UCP threat to close public parks

A small but mighty group of people in Athabasca have come together to raise awareness of the UCP government's decision to shutter or privatize public parks and recreation areas gathering over 1,700 signatures in just over two months.

NDP MLA Marlin Schmidt, the shadow minister of Environment and Parks will be tabling the petition in the Alberta Legislature Oct. 29 as the group does not have faith a UCP MLA will. 


New Family Resource Network provides supports for parents and caregivers

An exciting new resource for parents and caregivers in north central Edmonton has just opened its doors. The North Central Edmonton Family Resource Network is located at the Castle Downs Family YMCA, and operates as a hub for programs and services offered by community-serving organizations with a family and parenting focus.

The North Central Edmonton Family Resource Network is hosting a drive-through grand opening event on October 8 from 1–6pm, where families are invited to drive, walk or stroll through the parking lot to meet their friendly staff, learn more about what's offered there, and win prizes!

Thirty-six years ago, Apollo's Western Cup was formed as a non-profit organization with the goal to create a sports festival for the LGBTQ community in western Canada.
