Bookmark and Share

On Wednesday January 30 2013, Members of the Orangeville community will celebrate the grand opening of Next Choice Transitional Housing Project, an offspring of the successful Choices Youth Shelter that has served the Dufferin County community for well over 10 years. Press Release - Jan 29, 2013 - The new youth shelter aims at assisting selected youth that have successfully gone through the highly supervised shelter living program at Choices Youth Shelter. Next Choice Transitional Housing serves as a transition from a more regimented lifestyle that offers more autonomy to the youth it houses while still providing full access to the support services they require, until the residents are able to live in the community in a positive & self sufficient way.

Transition Centres such as Next Choice benefit the community by greatly reducing recidivism, by providing the guidance needed for a smooth and permanent transition away from homelessness.

Hand To Hand Community Services Fdn, a proud supporter of Choices Youth Shelter will be attending the Next Choice grand opening and have committed to supplying the home with a new microwave, as a housewarming gift.

Hand To Hand Community Services Fdn raises funds through money generated by the textile recycling industry in South Western Ontario, including Dufferin County. Executive Director Francis Genovese said, "Our office is in Orangeville just around the corner from Choices Youth Shelter, it's important for us to support the community that supports us. We get to see the kids this place is helping, and it uplifts the entire community. Orangeville is a family town, and these kids are our family too. Aside from Hand To Hand's support, I myself as an avid gardener plan on keeping these kids supplied with fresh vegetables all summer. With Orangeville's close-knit charity community, anything the shelter can't use, will go to the local soup kitchen. We can all do our part and every bit does make a difference."

Daniela Siggia, Director Of Program Development for Hand To Hand Community Services wishes to do more for Dufferin County Homeless Youth through Mary Vervoort, executive director of Choices Youth Shelter.

"Mary has a dream of opening a day centre that provides life and work skills development programs to all at-risk youth in Dufferin County, and I believe it's vital for this region. My goal is to mobilize community leaders so that with our combined efforts we can make this goal a reality ."

Hand To Hand Community Services Fdn is currently expanding their fundraising initiatives locally with a focus on youth homelessness in the region.
