Winnipeg, MB, September 25, 2011:  A group of feral cats and kittens quite literally stole the Prairie Feline Fanciers cat show this weekend.  In the large and highly competitive class, a contingent of former alley cats rescued by Craig Street Cats took 29 of 100 ribbons available for household pets.  In addition, three of ten judges selected one of the group as their choice for ‘best household pet’.

“These ribbons are very significant for feral cats in this city.” says Craig Street Cats founder, Lynne Scott.  “Our cats competed against a very large group of gorgeous felines, many of which are pure bred, and the judges saw them as just as deserving of praise as cats with long pedigrees.”

Scott went on to explain that the 2 cats and 5 kittens were entered to gain exposure and encourage adoptions.  “It’s important that people understand that these cats are just as cute and cuddly as any other cat, and that they make great pets.  The judges here seem to agree.”

Craig Street Cats is a non-profit organization working to humanely reduce Winnipeg’s free roaming cat population, rescue kittens, and educate the community about feral cats.  It was formed in 2008 in response to the many free roaming cats seen on Wolseley’s Craig Street during the winter of 2007 /08.
