Media Release: Healthy, wealthy and fertile - the Year of the Dog

Bookmark and Share

As you are probably aware, today marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar in Chinese culture. People all over the world are celebrating the Chinese (Lunar) New Year or Spring Festival as we embark on the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese Zodiac. Media Release (02/16/2018) Halifax, NS - Celebrations focus on families and friends gathering for delicious dinners, honoring ancestors, exchanges of gifts and lucky red envelopes and above all sharing wishes for good fortune, happiness and health. It is widely recognized that good health is the foundation of all else, so from here, we draw your attention to the deep cultural connection to holistic health practices that spring from a 5000-year-old tradition of Chinese Medicine.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Acupuncture are truly integral parts of the Chinese way of life. Here at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and TCM in Bedford, the goal is to provide quality training in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine so that our acupuncture diploma graduates can also begin treating members of the community through many holistic health and TCM techniques.

The college’s founders, Dr. Diana Tong Li and Dr. Franklyn Chen, came here from China with an impressive background in TCM and acupuncture. Both have obtained PhD’s in Acupuncture & TCM from Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, in addition to their Medical Doctor and Naturopathic Doctor designations. They have been practicing for over 30 years in China and Canada and have successfully treated thousands of patients with various illnesses and conditions.

Within the field, they are specialists in fertility and are especially proud of their natural fertility program which has helped parents overcome years of frustration by conceiving and birthing a total of 432 bundles of joy. It has been said that a Year of the Dog is a great fertility year, so one can only imagine that there will be many more babies to come!

Dr. Li and Dr. Chen would be honoured to share their story with you if you are interested in doing an interview or piece about them or the college. They are always eager to help people gain an understanding of Chinese culture and how acupuncture and Chinese medicine are changing Canadian health practices and the way we look at our wellbeing.

Wishing you a healthy and prosperous Chinese New Year!

Dr. Diana Tong Li

Dr. Franklyn Chen
