Media Release: Regina Symphony Orchestra To Announce First-Of-Its-Kind Music And Art Festival, Forward Currents Festival

On November 23, 2017 – 11AM at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the RSO will be officially announcing the Forward Currents Festival, a music festival which explores current socially relevant issues through music and art. The official subtitle of this year’s festival is “Listen and Hear: Toward Prairie Reconciliation” and is set to take place from March 2-4, 2018 at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. Media Release (11/20/2017) Regina, SK - The Forward Currents Festival is a first-of-its-kind event within Regina, and western Canada. The festival will bring together music and art in a unique venue that will inspire connections, and spark conversations about issues affecting us, and our community. The festival is an opportunity to look at the present and the future, shape the dialogue around today’s challenges, and explore different world views.

The focus of this year’s festival will be Truth and Reconciliation, a continued focus by the RSO through initiatives including the Buffy Sainte-Marie concert and community outreach tour. The RSO will be partnering with indigenous artists from various disciplines for a series of concerts with RSO musicians.

In attendance for the announcement will be RSO Executive Director Tanya Derksen, RSO Music Director Gordon Gerrard, His Worship Mayor Michael Fougere, Head Curator of the MacKenzie Art Gallery Timothy Long, and a performance by Forward Currents Festival 2018 artist, Eekwol.
