Prince Edward Island

A new outdoor multimedia experience will be unveiled in downtown Charlottetown this summer.

WireService.ca Media Release (05/30/2017) Charlottetown, PEI - The show, Signatures - A Canadian Spectacle Under the Stars, is being presented by Discover Charlottetown, Confederation Centre of the Arts, and Graphics eMotion in celebration of Canada 150. The organizers are inviting Canadians from across the country to help choose the show's closing song and offering those who vote a chance to win a getaway to the Island's capital.

"We're very excited to launch this new show and want to have the whole country involved in making it a memorable experience" said Heidi Zinn, Executive Director of Discover Charlottetown. "Through visuals and sounds that capture the nation's diversity - from its natural and built landscapes, to its multicultural make-up - the show's message will resonate with audiences of all ages, languages and backgrounds."

The organization recently set up an online poll to gather input from Canadians in all ten provinces and three territories on what song(s) should close out the 30-minute sound and light spectacle. The catch? It needs to be a singalong.

The poll includes over 25 well-known songs by Canadians spanning more than 5 decades including classics such as Barrett's Privateers by Stan Rogers and Harvest Moon by Neil Young, alongside more current hits such as Stompa by Serena Ryder and Wavin' Flag by K'NAAN. Voters can also suggest other song choices through the poll.

Signatures - A Canadian Spectacle Under the Stars will be projected on the Confederation Centre's sandstone walls nightly from June 25th to October 1st. It will be free for public viewing, providing a high-quality, engaging and accessible experience for visitors and residents. And, of course, it will offer the opportunity for Canadians to share their singing voices and show their national pride.

To encourage people to fill out the singalong poll, Discover Charlottetown is offering all voters the chance to win a three-night dream getaway to the Birthplace of Confederation this summer. The prize package includes $750 in travel bucks, 3 nights accommodation in Charlottetown, tickets to the live shows at Confederation Centre of the Arts, $200 dining gift card and more.

"We want as many people to participate in our poll as possible, so we've created an extra enticing incentive to vote. PEI's the perfect summer vacation destination and we want to give one lucky person the chance to experience it," said Zinn.
