WireService.ca Media Release (05/08/2017) Toronto, ON

Don Rickles

Unbeknownst to most of us Mr. Rickels did his work, as it happened…

"Everything I've ever done in my whole career, people might not know, I've never written anything on paper"

"I write my own tweets."

Luckily, I had the pleasure of meeting Don Rickles and his wife Barbara, backstage at the O'Keefe Centre in Toronto, in the 80's.

He was here to support his best friend Bob Newhart.

Something Don and Bob and their wives, did for decades.

Most of us know Don's Varied & Versatile Volume of Work, but did you know he's last appearance in Canada was at the Just For Laughs, Festival 2014?

His quick wit and funny remarks accompanied by his genuine affection for his audience made him an irresistible combination of fun, amusement and laughter.

Popularly known as 'Mr. Warmth' and 'Master of Insults', would you believe?

Don Rickles was a man who was always ready to hurl insults at you, which would surprisingly make you LAUGH!

ON BEING BRANDED AN "INSULT COMIC"

"An insult comic is the title I was given. What I do is exaggeration. I make fun of people, at life, of myself and my surroundings."

Did you know when he began his career in the early 1950s, he started calling ill-mannered members of the audience "hockey pucks"?

ON WHAT'S FUNNY

"If I were to insult people and mean it, that wouldn't be funny, there is a difference between an actual insult and just having fun."

From stand-up joke telling, he soon realized, audiences loved, his unbelievably-daring, impromptu insults, more than the prepared comic material.

*In his day they called his work AD-LIB.

Today we call it IMPROV….. if Don Rickles was 100, I think he would call it "INSTANT GOOGLYISMS."

Here are some more of my WHAT WOULD DON RICKLES SAY?

• "Very funny! I died, can't you finally leave me alone?"

• "Never coming back!!!"

• "Barbara my lovely wife, help me out here…I can't recall your name again…" - Miss-SUZETTE-Fun.com

The Pretend Interview with Miss-SUZETTE-Fun.com

Titled: WHAT WOULD DON RICKLES SAY?

How are you feeling, these days Mr. Rickles?

Still actively creating funny improv?

"Yes, of course, I still have my creative drive, but now it's called the USB DRIVE." -Orig. Miss-SUZETTE April 15, 2017

THANK YOU FOR so many laughs, memories, quotes, photos, movies…

DON RICKLES, master of IMPROV "INSULTS", wishing you, ETERNAL HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!
