Folklorama is thrilled to announce being named a Finalist for this year's Canadian Tourism Awards (CTA) in the category of Event of the Year. Media Release (09/15/2016) Winnipeg, MB - This is a wonderful honour for the festival and a testament to the hard work of the staff, Board of Directors and many volunteers who come together to produce this world-class event each year.

"Folklorama provides an important platform for Manitoba's ethno-cultural communities to share their intangible heritage with others while promoting positive aspects of Canada's multicultural identity. We're proud of the work we have done as an organization within the tourism sector over the past decades to highlight not only our festival but the many opportunities for tourists within our city and province. On behalf of Folklorama I would like to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, funders and tourism partners who support us and our mission of celebrating diversity and in particular, thanks to Travel Manitoba for nominating us for this prestigious award," says Debra Zoerb, Executive Director.

Folklorama is one of a select few festivals that actively markets to tour operators to both coordinate and promote their visits to Manitoba. Folklorama Travel works with local attractions to develop itineraries; liaises with hospitality partners to provide accommodations, food and local transport; and functions as a vacation planner for third-party tour operators.

The Canadian Tourism Awards (CTA) are presented annually by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada to recognize success, leadership and innovation in Canada's tourism industry, and to reward those people, places, organizations and events that have gone above and beyond to offer travelers superior tourism experiences in Canada.

Folklorama will find out the results at the CTA awards evening taking place at the Hilton Lac Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec on Wednesday, November 30th.

Folklorama produces the largest and longest-running multicultural festival of its kind in the world, as determined in 2010 by the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF). The Folklorama Festival began in 1970 as a one-time celebration of Manitoba's centennial, and has since grown into an annual 14-day celebration of global culture and entertainment that happens during the first two weeks in August. Partnering with diverse ethno-cultural communities to promote and celebrate their intangible culture, the Folklorama Festival attracts over 400,000 visits every year and acts as a summer tourism anchor for Winnipeg.
